Los British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), es decir, los premios al cine independiente británico, se tiñen de verde en su nueva edición con el dominio de las irlandesas "Escondidos en Brujas" y "Hunger" en las nominaciones que acaban de anunciarse.

"Escondidos en Brujas", comedia negra dirigida por Martin McDonagh y protagonizada por Ralph Fiennes, Colin Farrell y Brendan Gleeson que actualmente se puede ver en la cartelera argentina, lideró la lista de candidaturas con un total de siete. La misma cifra consiguió la otra esperanza irlandesa, "Hunger", drama de Steve McQueen que rememora la huelga de hambre iniciada por Bobby Sands en 1981 en la Prisión de Maze, Irlanda del Norte, a la que se derivaban los presos políticos del IRA.

Danny Boyle consiguió cinco nominaciones para su "Slumdog Millionaire", cinta ambientada en la India; mientras que Eran Creevy logró una cantidad similar con "Shifty", film de bajo presupuesto que sigue 24 horas en la vida de un traficante de crack. Otros nominados destacados son los largometrajes "Somers Town", de Shane Meadows; la comedia dramática "Son of Rambow", de Garth Jennings, y "The Duchess", de Saul Dibbs con la etérea Keira Knightley como protagonista.

Los galardones de la 11° edición se entregarán el próximo 30 de noviembre.
